Directory intends to boost RP outsourcing businesses

MANILA, Philippines - Intent on grabbing 10 percent of the $130-billion global market for business process outsourcing (BPO), the umbrella organization of BPOs in the country last Friday launched a new marketing tool that will sell the Philippines to the rest of the world.
The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) launched the Offshoring & Outsourcing Directory which the group claims is the first of its kind in the local scene.
Published by BPA/P and Asiatype, Inc., a BPO focused on electronic publishing and digital imaging, the 364-page directory costs $295 or P13,500 per copy, and will be available in many local and international trade fairs to promote the Philippine BPO industry.
Oscar M. Sañez, chief executive officer of BPA/P, told reporters that the directory is an important marketing tool as the industry association goes on trade missions abroad and engages in investor networking.
“Over the years, we have all seen how the industry posted phenomenal numbers that led to the Philippines being recognized as a top IT-BPO destination in the world. With this directory, we hope to concretize that recognition and showcase to the world that the Philippines is not just about call centers but a whole lot more, and poised to achieve more growth even beyond our original projections," Sañez said.
“The growth of the outsourcing and offshoring industry in the Philippines could no longer be ignored—and neither could the need for a publication that promoted it abroad," said Philippe Gauthier, chairman of Asiatype, at the press launch.
BPA/P and Asiatype said the directory is the next major initiative of the BPO industry after the launching of the Offshoring & Outsourcing Roadmap 2010, a document which outlines the industry’s strategies and programs. The highlight of the roadmap is for the industry to generate one million jobs and grab 10% of the global BPO market valued at $130 billion by 2010.
The directory contains company information, key contact details and business description of over 550 local and foreign companies.
As a marketing tool to help investors, the directory also has basic information such as registration procedures, list of investment promotion agencies, and a list of available office space.
Miguel Paulino, Asiatype Sales and Marketing Director, said the directory will be available in local bookstores and in the forthcoming Frankfurt Book Fair, as well as in other trade fairs that the BPO industry will participate. - GMANews.TV
